Which ERP System

Postby harryking » Tue Oct 21, 2008 8:39 pm

I'm in the process of choosing a new ERP System for my Manufacturing company based in the UK.

I use Sage Line 50 at present but as we are expanding I would like to invest in a system which can do more and is SQL or Oracle Based.

My reseller is suggesting upgrading to Sage 200 or line 1000.

Can anyone suggest or recommend which one to go for and what are the main differences.
Or even suggest a different system altogether.
I have had a look around the web and found these.
SAP Business one.
Peoplesoft
Microsoft Dynamics
JD Edwards

I am thinking of starting off slowly like to move the accounts, sales ledger, purchase ledger and Nominal. Sales order processing, Purchase orders and Bill of materials.

After a little while I will then be looking at adding Works orders and barcode scanning in my warehouse.

Thanks in advance for your advice

As you have Sage line 50 already installed then it would make sense to upgrade to Sage 200.

Sage line 500 or 1000 would be an overkill for your requirements and Sage 200 is modular so you can install them when required.
With Sage 200 there is a built in upgrade process to upgrade the Sage line 50 database to Sage 200.

For the other systems, SAP business one, Microsoft Dynamics and JD Edwards all will do a similar job, you will have a higher cost in data conversion.

Harry

I agree with Ed if you have Sage 50 then I would go the upgrade route to Sage 200.

We used to use Sage 50 about 2 years ago then we upgraded, the Sage process was reasonably painless but the data tidying took much Longer.

Speak to a few resellers and see what services they can provide, and start to tidy your data in Sage 50. If you decide to go this route I can post the import spreadsheets so you can get started.

Let me know

Hi.

If you need to do hard stock allocations in SOP then Sap B1 is not the right one for you, there are add-on's for SAP but they all cost and add to the end price, I also used to work for Tetra and wrote some of what is now called Sage Line 500/1000 so my knowledge is in this area, however this is a big product and probably overkill, however having said that so is JD Edwards - I have a semi-retired friend who works for a Sage LIne 200/500 Reseller and his old company replaced Line 500 for JD Edwards and it cost them a fortune and was a backward step ...
I can put you in touch with this reseller if your choice is between 200 and 500 as they sell both and have good knowledge of both products.

Harry,

Give this a try.
Even if you have chosen your route and are well under way.

Register yourself then do the comparison.
The questions you are asked about your business are questions you need to ask yourself regardless of what end product you select.
It is biased to American vendors but the principals are still valid.
