Line 500 - Upgrading from v5 to v6

Postby h20vrrq » Wed Jun 13, 2007 11:24 am

Hi,

We are currently running Line 500 on a server with the os as Windows 2000. We also have SQL 2000 installed which is where Line 500 v5 resides.

Can anyone tell me the correct/recommended upgrade path to move the os from 2000 to 2003 and Line 500 from v5 to v6.

I am being told by Sage that even upgrading the os to 2003 requires a completely new installation of Line 500 which also needs to be done when we goto v6.

I find it very hard to believe that by just upgrading the os requires a new install of Sage. We arent even changing SQL Server, just leaving that at 2000.

I admit I could be wrong, but having to do a new install of Sage for every upgrade seems like a money making exercise to me.

I went through the same pain, luckily we needed to upgrade our server aswell so we bought the new server insatalled windows 2003 sql 2005 and sage line 500 v6 all at once.

We were left alone for a month to test and then did the upgrade.

Had a few problems with the data dictionary changes but the system has settled down now.

I would definately recomend sql 2005 for v6 as you get all the new sql tools (reporting services)

If you don't have the luxury of getting a new server then the migration path in stages is probably the right way to do it.
