I have used Sage mms where it includes a decent VAT Return print.
Sage 500 looks like it hasn't got such a print and I have to manually work this out using reports which has been setup by our IT department. These are queries straight into excel.

Is there a better way to report on these?

Yes your right Sage 500 hasn't got the vat return report like Sage 200.

You have a few options

1: Use Sage BI
2: Create a report using Excel VBA
3: Create a report using either Crystal or MS Reporting Services

My choice would be using reporting services.

What system are you running sql 2000 or sql 2005?
